That is most of what we do midweek and every Saturday. Packed is labor only, so you keep the rental truck or the container and we bring the movers who fill it.

A city apartment move is not a small version of a house move, it is a different problem. The furniture is lighter and there is less of it, and almost all the difficulty is in the building: a freight elevator you can hold for two hours and not a minute more, a loading dock shared with a grocery delivery, a service corridor with a right-angle turn, a walk-up with a landing too tight for a sofa. Packed crews work in those buildings every week, from the West Loop and Lakeview through Logan Square and Wicker Park and out to Evanston and Oak Park.
Because we are labor only, you rent the truck, the van or the container and keep it in your own name, and we bring the two movers who wrap, carry and stack. That is usually the cheapest way for one person or a couple to move, and it is why most of these jobs are booked by somebody moving for the first time without their parents' minivan. Furniture gets blanket-wrapped before it goes near a doorway, a bed or a table comes apart if it has to, and everything goes back together at the new address.
Timing is the other half. Most of these moves land on a Saturday, a Sunday or a weekday evening, because that is when the building will give you the elevator and when you are not at work. We book them that way on purpose. If your lease ends on the last day of the month, that weekend is the busiest one in the city, so call early.

Most of these moves happen on a Saturday or after five on a weekday, because that is when the building will give you the elevator. Booking outside business hours is not an exception we grudgingly make.
A one-bedroom is a few hours, not a day
With the boxes packed and the elevator held, two movers usually clear a one-bedroom in two to three hours at each end. We quote by the hour, so a fast job costs less rather than getting padded out.
The building paperwork is half the job
Certificates, elevator reservations, dock windows and a padded-elevator rule are different in every building. Tell us what your management company asked for and we will work inside it rather than finding out at the door.

Can you move a one-bedroom apartment in one visit?⌄
Almost always. With the boxes packed and the elevator reserved, two movers usually load a one-bedroom in two to three hours and unload it in about the same. We quote by the hour, so the estimate is a range and you pay for the time it actually takes.
Do you work with high-rise loading docks and elevator windows?⌄
Yes, and we would rather know the rules in advance. Send us the reserved window, the dock entrance and anything the management company requires, and the crew plans the load around it instead of losing half the window at the desk.
My building is a walk-up. Will you still take the job?⌄
Yes. Three and four-storey walk-ups are ordinary work in this city. Stairs change the crew size and the time rather than whether we come, so tell us the floor and whether the stairwell turns.
Can you come on a weekend or in the evening?⌄
Yes, and most of these moves do. Saturdays and weekday evenings are normal booking times for us. The last weekend of the month is the one that fills first, so book it as soon as your lease dates are set.
I am moving out of state for a job. Can you help?⌄
Yes. You reserve a U-Box, a container or a U-Pack trailer, we load it at your building, and it travels while you fly or drive. Booking a separate crew to unload at the other end is easy, and we will talk you through how to find one.
Do I have to pack before you arrive?⌄
Not necessarily. If everything is boxed the move runs faster and costs less in hours, but we also pack, and the kitchen and the closets are the two rooms people most often hand over at the last minute.
